Managing Employer Preferences

Purpose

Settings > Preferences holds the company-wide choices that shape what employees can see and do in UZIO. Each preference is a Yes/No switch (one is a number). Examples: whether employees see your benefit contributions, whether they can change their own bank details, and whether you can sign a document on an employee's behalf. Most "can we hide or allow X for our employees?" questions are answered on this page.

Who can do this: the Employer Administrator, or a user whose custom role grants Settings under Company Access. See Understanding Roles and Access.

When to use this

  • During implementation, to set how the Employee Portal behaves before employees register.
  • When you add a module (payroll, documents, time tracking) and need to decide what employees may do in it themselves.
  • When HR policy changes, for example locking payment-method changes to HR only.

Preferences are company-wide. If you need a rule for one group of employees only, look at role permissions or the module's own settings instead.

Edit preferences

  1. Go to Settings in the left navigation. The Preferences tab opens (the other tabs are Custom Fields, Pay Groups, Event Rules and Automated Events).
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Set each preference, then click Update. Cancel discards your changes.

The list below was captured on one live account in July 2026. Your account may show fewer or more preferences depending on the modules you use.

Warning: These are company-wide switches, not per-employee settings. Setting "Restrict payment method details" or "Hide My Payroll Section" to Yes affects every employee at once. Tell employees before you change them.

What happens after you save

Changes apply to the whole company. Employees do not receive a notification. Whether a change also applies to the UZIO Mobile App has not been confirmed for every preference; if a mobile view still shows a section you hid, ask UZIO Support.

Common problems

Employees can still see something I hid. Confirm the preference saved as Yes (open Edit again and check). Ask the employee to sign out and back in. If it persists on the web, contact UZIO Support with the preference name and a screenshot from the employee's view.

A manager cannot see the Preferences page. Preferences is part of Settings, which is a company-level permission. Reporting Managers do not have it by default. Grant Settings on a custom role, or make the change yourself. See Managing Users and Roles.

I want to sign a document for an employee but there is no option. Two things must be true: this page has "Allow employers to sign or acknowledge the documents on behalf of the employees" set to Yes, and your role includes Employee Portal Impersonation. Then impersonate the employee and complete the document from their view.

Still stuck?

Please reach out to us at support@uzio.com or call +1-571-601-1752. Include the preference name exactly as shown on the page, the value you set, when you saved it, and a screenshot of what the employee still sees.
